He takes extreme pleasure from exceeding those expectations, whether it is in his studies, in his magical prowess or as a pureblood. He often excels, but he doesn't flaunt it. He doesn't feel that there is a need to. And besides, it's a classless act to brag. [/style]Despite the movement towards equality, Lucas is still very much under the impression that purebloods (or more to the point, Irvings) are superior to the general populace. Growing up, he has spent more time around his cousins and extended family than with Rufus and thus, his father's Regardless of his opinions towards Rufus, the boy isn't a rebellious child. The thought just doesn't cross his mind actually. What does grate on his nerves is the tendency for people to acknowledge him as 'the potions master's son' and 'Rufus' boy'. He has no qualms about being his father's son (although he does think that Rufus could have done much better than spend the rest of his life as a mere teacher) but HE IS HIS OWN PERSON. In fact, it is one of his ambitions to best his father in every possible aspect; no meagre task considering Rufus himself had been an outstanding student back in the day, or so he has heard. In an effort to differentiate himself from his father, he wears an eye-patch over his discoloured eye: the single most obvious physical trait that he and Rufus share (it's crimson underneath). As a child, he wore one for a time after being called a freak by friends. Nowadays, he finds his dichromatism quite pleasant. It's just too much of a reminder to people that he's his father's son is all. Covering the eye has done wonders to encourage his schoolmates to call him by name. It hasn't crossed his mind to let his dad know why he's started wearing the eye-patch again. Last summer, Lucas had a friend's father teach him LEGILIMENCY in exchange for tutoring his friend during the holidays. It had been his intention to pick up Occlumency instead, but due to the nature of his wand, it was suggested that he learned Legilimency first. To his knowledge, it is a skill that Rufus doesn't have. He is quite adept at it. Likewise, it's not something he's told his dad about. He is looking to learn to become an animagus during the school year. While Lucas is very close with his mother (he writes her weekly correspondences), he is quite distant with his father. He addresses to Rufus as 'Professor Irving' in class and when doing anything pertaining to the school. Elsewhere, Rufus is his father. He doesn't take too kindly to his cousin Gwyn who was sorted into Hufflepuff (what proper Irving gets herself sorted into Hufflepuff?) but is extremely caring towards his fiancée. One more thing. Lucas is an accomplished pianist. It's his way of relieving himself of stress, although you'll never hear him admit it. He insists that he plays in order to please his fiancée Arden.
